The AcroBack Effect: Turning One Product into an Acroyoga Worldwide Brand

Five years ago, I had this crazy idea. No, not the one about turning my house into a giant ball pit. The other one: creating the ultimate acroyoga lower back pillow, The AcroBack. It all started in my tiny apartment, with a dream and a lot of sweat—mostly from lugging heavy mats up the stairs.

Little did I know, this would be the beginning of something much bigger than a single product.

Back then, I was just a one-person show, shipping out The AcroBack mats to anyone who would buy them. I remember the first sale like it was yesterday. The excitement, the joy, the... wait, did I remember to include the instructions? But as word spread and more people fell in love with The AcroBack, I realized it was time to expand.

Fast forward to today, and we’re no longer just a mat company. We’ve blossomed into a full-fledged acroyoga brand with a diverse product line and customers from all corners of the globe. And guess what? I’m not alone anymore. I now have a team of six fantastic individuals, five of whom are local Indonesians. Building this team was a journey in itself, filled with learning, laughter, and a few hiccups along the way.

Bringing everyone together for the first time was like assembling the Avengers, but with more yoga mats and fewer superpowers. Each person brought their unique skills and perspectives to the table, and I quickly learned that the key to success was getting all the right people on the bus at the right time. It was like finding the perfect balance in a tricky acro pose—challenging but oh-so-rewarding when you nail it.

One of the best parts about building this team has been seeing how each member's strengths complement the others. There’s Eko, our production maestro who can sew a mat faster than you can say “downward dog.” Then there’s Fitri, our marketing genius with an eye for detail and a knack for social media that leaves me in awe. And let’s not forget Ica, our logistics wizard who ensures every product reaches its destination on time, no matter how remote. Our master of technology and architecture pro is none other than Yoga himself. Colin is the design master and brand manager. Last but not least, we have Julita who ensures all of our finances are accurate and up to date.

Of course, there were challenges along the way. Like the time we decided to do a team-building retreat in the jungle, and half of us ended up with mosquito bites the size of small countries. Or the moment we realized that "perfect timing" meant something entirely different when coordinating with international suppliers in different time zones. But these experiences only made us stronger and more cohesive as a team.

One of the most rewarding aspects has been seeing the growth and development of my team members. Watching them take ownership of their roles and excel in ways I never imagined has been nothing short of inspiring.

It’s a reminder that the journey of building a business is just as much about the people you bring along as it is about the products you create.

Now, as we continue to expand our product line and reach new markets, I can’t help but feel a deep sense of gratitude for how far we’ve come. The AcroBack was just the beginning. We now offer a variety of acroyoga products, from mats and props to apparel and accessories, all designed with the same passion and attention to detail that started it all.

Looking ahead, I’m excited for what the future holds. There are new challenges to tackle, new products to develop, and new markets to explore.
