Note: The FlySafe Spotting Belt has been rebranded as the FlyCarian™ AcroYoga Spotting Belt. Same philosophy, same commitment to safety — upgraded design, new name. Everything in this post still holds true.
Let's be real — AcroYoga is one of the most exhilarating things you can do with your body (and another body). But it can also be one of the riskiest. Whether you're throwing pops, flipping Icarians, or spotting a first-time flyer, the margin for error is slim. As a longtime acroyogi and base who's taken more than a few surprise landings, I knew we needed something better. Something designed for us — not borrowed from other sports.
If you've ever tried to spot a dynamic AcroYoga pop or an Icarian throw with just your arms, you know the feeling — equal parts adrenaline and mild terror. You're trying to catch your friend mid-flight while keeping your toes and fingers intact. It's chaos disguised as grace. And for years, there just wasn't an acro spotting belt that truly fit what we do.

So I went hunting. I searched high and low for a spotting belt that actually made sense for AcroYoga. What I found? Climbing harnesses with too many buckles and metal loops. Gymnastics belts covered in swivels and metal bits — an absolute nightmare when someone's feet or hands are nearby. They're brilliant for what they do, but in AcroYoga they're like showing up to a pool party wearing ski boots. My fingers were one slip away from getting caught, and the flyer? Let's just say steel rings don't feel great mid-pop.

The problem was obvious: nothing out there was built with the acro body in mind. We roll. We twist. We base with our hands and spot with our souls. So I decided to create what didn't exist — an AcroYoga spotting belt that was lightweight, injury-safe, and acro-strong. Something smooth and comfortable for contact but strong enough to take a flyer into orbit and bring them safely home.
Building It From Scratch
Thus began the design journey. I studied everything from kite-surfing belts to weightlifting belts, trying to understand how to balance strength, mobility, and comfort. I started sketching, stitching, testing, failing, testing again, and collaborating with friends who've trained all over the world. I stripped it all back to basics — no rings, no unnecessary metal, no fluff. Just a solid foundation of comfort and safety. A belt so intuitive you forget it's there… until you need it.

I stripped away every unnecessary loop and metal piece until it was clean, sleek, and safe for bases. Then I built it back up with what truly mattered: reinforced stitching, a triple-layer Velcro system, and a military-grade buckle that refuses to fail. Redundancy on redundancy. Because in Acro, if something breaks, you don't just lose gear — you risk bodies.
I wanted the belt to feel good too. The inside is padded for comfort and lined with soft, breathable material so flyers can train longer without rubbing or bruising. On the sides, I added removable hand-spot straps — short, padded, neoprene-wrapped handles that give spotters better grip and control. No more rope burns or clumsy wraps. Just clean, predictable catches that feel natural.
The Hand-Spot Breakthrough
The hand-spot system was a big breakthrough. Traditional spotting ropes are long, heavy, and can whip or tangle. My design gives each spotter a single loop per side, positioned close to the hips — the natural center of gravity. It creates a balanced connection between spotter and flyer. You can react faster, smoother, and with less interference on the trick itself. Two spotters working together, each with their own handle, each with a clean line to the flyer's hips. That's the dual-spotter design that makes the FlyCarian™ different from anything else out there.

Built to Travel, Built to Last
The belt weighs just about half a kilo. That means it's easy to travel with, throw in your Acro bag, or use anywhere — from beaches to backyards to big studios. You don't need a full rigging setup to train safely. Just a couple of friends, some creativity, and the FlyCarian™ AcroYoga spotting belt.
Of course, none of that matters if it's not built to last. I went through multiple manufacturers, and none of them hit the level I wanted. Eventually I found one with the right machines, but even then, I invested in a specialized sewing machine just to get the tight, dense box-X stitching I knew this acro belt needed. Every line of thread is intentional. Every belt is checked, re-checked, and tested beyond the limits of spotting.

Why It Matters
I wanted this spotting belt to feel like a trust pact. Between base and flyer. Between flyer and sky. When someone straps in, there should be no doubt: this is a tool built for safety, not for show. I even tested it personally during flips, carry-ins, and high-level pops — because if I wouldn't trust it with my own life, I wouldn't put it out into the world.
This isn't a gimmick — it's safety equipment. And I want to sleep well at night knowing that when someone wears a FlyCarian™, it's not going to fail. Like all tools, it does need care: inspect it, keep it clean, treat it with respect. If you do, it'll take care of you for years.
For me, this belt represents more than just hardware. It's a philosophy of how we grow safely in AcroYoga. The goal isn't to prevent all falls — it's to slow them down, to minimize risk, and to build confidence so that both flyer and base can push their limits without fear. The FlyCarian™ gives that extra margin of safety that allows real progress — the kind that only comes from repetition, trust, and play.

What makes the FlyCarian™ special isn't just the materials — it's the mindset. It's not a repurposed product from another sport. It's made for acroyogis by someone who lives, breathes, and occasionally crashes mid-pop. This isn't a product we added to our toolkit. It's a product we needed.
When you see someone catch a pop cleanly or stick a dynamic whip with full commitment, there's always a story of trust behind it. That's what the FlyCarian™ is for. It's a bridge between courage and caution, between trying and thriving. This belt isn't about adding flash. It's about removing fear.
So yeah — I made this for you. For me. For every flyer who's dared to pop higher, and every base who's braced a landing with trust and prayer.
The FlyCarian™ is my offering to the global acro community. Let's keep lifting each other — safely, skillfully, and with a little style.
