Handstand Blocks & Parallettes

Teak and cork training tools for handstands, hand-to-hand prep, and the solo strength work that supports every AcroYoga skill — handmade in Bali by Elemental Yoga.
Elemental Handstand Blocks, teak and cork

What they're for

Solo training tools, not partner gear.

The AcroBack supports a base mid-practice. FlyCarian supports a spotter mid-practice. These are different — they're for the individual strength, grip, and alignment work you do between sessions that makes the partner practice better.

Who it's built for

Anyone building the strength underneath the skill.

Hand balancers

Handstand practice, press work, and the grip and wrist control that comes with repetition.

Bases building press strength

Conditioning work that carries directly into L-basing and Icarian training.

Flyers working on control

Alignment and stability drills that support cleaner lines in the air.

Anyone training solo between sessions

Strength and mobility work you can do on your own, not just at a jam or class.

How they're made

Teak and cork, handmade in Bali.

Both the blocks and the parallettes are made by Elemental Yoga using the same two materials, for the same reason: teak for a rigid, durable training surface, cork for grounded, non-slip contact where your hands actually meet the wood.

Teak body

A dense hardwood that holds its shape under repeated loading — presses, drops, and years of practice — rather than warping or splitting like softer woods.

Cork contact points

Where your palms actually rest. Cork grips better than bare wood, especially once hands sweat, without feeling sticky or grabby.

Handmade in Bali

Every pair is made by Elemental Yoga, not mass-produced — the same maker behind both the blocks and the parallettes.

Handstand Blocks: ~10 × 14 × 6cm

Per block, sold as a left/right pair. Size and style options (below) change the footprint and feel slightly within that range.

Care

Keep dry when not in use, and wipe clean after practice. Avoid long exposure to standing water or harsh cleaning chemicals — it's wood and cork, not plastic.

Not designed for: fall protection or outdoor storage in wet conditions. These are floor-level solo training tools, not safety equipment — inspect before each use and stop if cracked, loose, or damaged.

Flat, angled, or round

Three block styles. Three different challenges.

Same teak-and-cork construction, same left/right pair — the shape changes how your wrist sits and how much your grip has to work. All three ship in Standard size; Flat and Angled also come in Small.

Flat

The classic, stable feel

A level top surface — the most predictable base, and the easiest to trust when you're new to blocks or working on straight handstand line.

Best for: first-time block users, straight-line handstand drills, anyone who wants the variable to be their body, not the surface.

Angled

Wrist-friendly leverage

The surface tilts your wrist into a slightly more open angle, taking some of the extension load off it and adding a bit of mechanical leverage for pressing.

Best for: anyone whose wrists complain on flat surfaces, and press-work that benefits from a small leverage assist.

Round

The grip and control challenge

A curved top means constant, small stabilizing adjustments — the same reason gymnasts and hand balancers use round training surfaces once the basics are solid.

Best for: practitioners past the beginner stage who want to build fine balance and grip control, not just hold a line.

Shop Round →

Small

A more compact footprint — sized for smaller hands or anyone who'd rather pack light for travel. Available in Flat and Angled.

Standard

The full-size platform, and the only size Round ships in. The default pick if you're not sure which to choose.

The newest addition

Elemental Wooden Parallettes

More clearance. More leverage. More ways to discover weaknesses. Same teak-and-cork construction as the blocks, built into a raised platform instead of a low one.
  • Sold as a pair
  • Teak + cork
  • Handmade in Bali

Lifting your hands off the floor changes what a handstand or press asks of your body: less wrist extension than training flat on the ground, more clearance for tucked and straddle L-sits, and more range of motion for planche progressions. Compared with the blocks, parallettes trade a lower, more stable profile for height and reach — most practitioners end up wanting both, not one instead of the other.

Before you use them: set up on a flat, stable surface and inspect before each session. Stop using if the wood, cork, or joints show cracks, looseness, or separation. Not designed for fall protection or as a substitute for spotting.

FAQ

Answers before you choose.

What's the difference between handstand blocks and parallettes?

Handstand blocks are a lower, more compact training surface — good for beginners and travel. Parallettes lift your hands higher off the ground, giving more clearance for tucked and straddle positions, L-sits, and planche work, at the cost of a slightly less stable base than blocks.

Flat, angled, or round — which handstand block style should I choose?

Flat gives the most stable, classic feel and is the easiest starting point. Angled positions your wrists more comfortably and adds a bit of pressing leverage. Round adds a grip and balance-control challenge for practitioners past the beginner stage. See the full comparison above.

Small or Standard — which size block should I get?

Standard is the default pick and the only size Round ships in. Small has a more compact footprint, better suited to smaller hands or packing light for travel — it's available in Flat and Angled.

What are they made of, and how do I take care of them?

The blocks and parallettes are teak and cork, handmade in Bali by Elemental Yoga. Keep them dry when not in use, wipe clean after practice, and avoid long exposure to standing water or harsh cleaning chemicals.

Do I need these if I already have The AcroBack or FlyCarian?

Handstand blocks and parallettes solve a different problem. The AcroBack supports a base's back and hips; FlyCarian supports a spotter's grip on a flyer. Handstand blocks and parallettes are solo strength and alignment tools that build the pressing, grip, and control skills that carry into partner work.

Is there a warranty?

Handstand Blocks and Parallettes are made by Elemental Yoga, a maker we carry rather than an in-house Beyond The Mat product line, so they aren't currently covered by a published Beyond The Mat warranty term. If something arrives damaged or defective, reach out to hello@beyondthematco.com and we'll help sort it out. Neither product is designed for fall protection — they're floor-level solo training tools, not safety equipment.
