FlyCarian Safety & Usage Guidelines

FlyCarian Safety & Usage Guidelines

The FlyCarian AcroYoga Spotting Belt is a training aid. Read and follow these guidelines before use.

What the FlyCarian is

The FlyCarian is designed to assist qualified instructors and experienced practitioners during AcroYoga skill development, including Icarian training, standing acrobatics, and dynamic partner skills where trained spotters use the belt as part of a controlled progression.

What the FlyCarian is not

The FlyCarian is not:

  • A fall-arrest or fall-protection system
  • A certified safety harness under EN, ANSI, or a similar standard
  • A substitute for qualified spotting, instruction, progression, or judgment
  • A device for aerial, rigging, suspension, climbing, industrial, or life-safety use
  • A guarantee of safety or injury prevention

Using the FlyCarian does not make a skill safe. It is a training aid used alongside appropriate instruction, trained spotters, communication, and progression.

Who should use the FlyCarian

The FlyCarian is intended for qualified AcroYoga instructors and experienced practitioners assisting with skill development in a controlled training environment. Everyone involved must understand the setup, communication, and limitations before use.

Pre-use inspection

Before every use, inspect the FlyCarian for:

  • Damage, cuts, abrasion, fraying, or unusual discolouration on webbing or fabric
  • Pulled, broken, or separated stitching
  • Deformation, corrosion, cracking, or damage to hardware and buckles
  • Correct adjustment and fit for the current user
  • Security of all intended connection and grip points
  • Any damage following a hard catch, unusual load, chemical contact, heat, or prolonged UV exposure

Do not use the FlyCarian if any component is damaged, unusually worn, or uncertain. Remove it from service and contact Beyond The Mat before continuing.

Fitting and use

Follow the FlyCarian User Guide. The belt is worn by the practitioner being spotted and must be fitted snugly without restricting breathing or movement. Trained spotters must establish clear roles, grip positions, and communication before every attempt.

Dual-spotter use

The FlyCarian is dual-spotter compatible. Dynamic progressions may require two trained spotters. Equipment does not decide when one or two spotters are sufficient; the responsible instructor and team must assess the skill, participants, environment, and progression.

Warranty is not safe service life

The FlyCarian includes an eligible two-year limited warranty, but warranty duration does not mean the belt is safe to use for two years. A belt can require immediate retirement at any age after damage, unusual loading, wear, contamination, or uncertainty. It may also remain serviceable beyond the warranty period when it continues to pass inspection. Safety and warranty are separate decisions.

Read the Beyond The Mat Two-Year Limited Warranty.
