The Base's Guide to Preventing Low-Back Strain

Being a base is a full-body job. You're absorbing weight shifts, dynamic loading, and repeated holds — often for hours at a jam or workshop. Most bases eventually run into the same two issues: tight hamstrings and lower back pain. Dynamic movement changes the equation

Static L-basing is one kind of load. Pops, whips, and other dynamic movements are a different, often bigger one. “The sudden shifts in weight and direction can create unexpected forces on the base's body,” Dr. Johnson notes. “Without adequate strength and stability, these movements can easily lead to injuries.”
