FlyCarian AcroYoga Spotting Belt User Guide

Read together. Fit carefully. Spot as a team.

This guide covers fitting, hand spotting, inspection, and care for the FlyCarian AcroYoga Spotting Belt. Read it before your first session and share it with everyone using the belt.

Last updated: 5 October 2026 · Guide version 1.1

WARNING: AcroYoga can cause serious injury or death, even with correct equipment use. FlyCarian is a training aid, not fall protection. It does not guarantee a catch or prevent injury.

Hand spotting only. Two trained spotters are required, one on each side. Use competent instruction, suitable mats, and a clear plan for ending each movement.

No maximum flyer weight, height, drop distance, or line/overhead load rating has been established. Fit and overlap checks do not establish load capacity.

What the belt is for

FlyCarian supports coordinated hand spotting during L-basing, Icarian, and inversion practice. The flyer wears the belt while two trained spotters use its padded side straps. It is intended for personal practice, classes, and training with supervision from an instructor familiar with the movement.

The belt may help spotters assist without putting their arms in the way. Assistance aims to slow a descent; it is not a guaranteed way to stop a fall. Skilled spotting, communication, and appropriate progressions remain essential.

Children require adult instructor supervision and must meet every size, fastening, and fit requirement. Secure fit alone does not establish suitability for a particular child or movement.

Lines and overhead setups

Line spotting, fixed anchors, overhead rigging, and independent suspension are outside the intended use and have not been independently tested or certified by Beyond The Mat. If you choose these activities, you do so at your own risk and are responsible for assessing the complete setup, equipment compatibility, loads, supervision, and local requirements. This guide provides no instructions or assurance of suitability for those setups.

Do not use the belt for play, climbing, rescue, or fall arrest. See Warranty and your rights below.

Check before every use

On arrival, check the belt and supplied side straps for damage or missing parts. Before every session, inspect them in good light, including the areas around the padding and reinforced connection points.

  • Webbing and stitching: look for cuts, fraying, worn areas, burns, opening seams, and broken, loose, or missing stitches.
  • Velcro: check for damage, debris, peeling, or fastening surfaces that no longer hold.
  • Buckle and adjustment: check for cracks, distortion, incomplete engagement, or an adjustment that slips.
  • Side straps and attachment points: check for damage, unusual stretching, loose connections, or padding that prevents you from checking their condition.

Check again after an incident, hard catch, or unusual loading. If anything is damaged, unusually worn, or uncertain, stop using the belt. Do not test questionable gear by using it again.

Find your fit

Measure around the belly at navel height over your practice clothing. Keep the tape level and comfortably against the body without pulling it tight.

Circumference at belt position
Size Centimetres Inches (approx.)
Extra Small / XS 56–68 cm 22.0–26.8 in
Small / S 64–80 cm 25.2–31.5 in
Medium / M 76–96 cm 29.9–37.8 in

Inch measurements are rounded to one decimal place. Use the centimetre ranges for sizing.

Stay within the stated size range and meet every closure requirement. Your measurement alone does not confirm a secure fit. Contact us if you are between sizes or unsure.

Belt position over the belly button above the hips, snug while allowing normal breathing. Closures and strap routing are not shown.

Fasten and check

  1. Position the belt. Wear it over the belly button, above the hips. Keep it flat and untwisted.
  2. Secure all three Velcro layers. Wrap and secure the first layer as tightly as practical while keeping normal breathing comfortable. Attach the second layer, then tighten and secure the third. Close all gaps; do not compensate for the wrong size by overtightening.
  3. Close the buckle. Snap it closed, check full engagement, and pull the adjustment tab tight. All three Velcro layers and the buckle must work correctly.
  4. Check with a partner. With the flyer standing on the floor, check the closures, strap connections, and belt position without lifting or suspending the flyer. The belt must stay at the waist with no loose gaps.

Overlap recommendation: allow at least 8 cm of fully engaged Velcro overlap on each of the three layers. This manufacturer recommendation has not been validated by engineering testing and is not a tested safe minimum. Meeting it does not guarantee retention.

If the belt pulls toward the chest or slides toward the hips, do not use it. Readjust or change size, then repeat the check. Stop for pain, numbness, restricted breathing, or any slipping. Recheck after adjustments, a change of wearer, or belt movement. Readjust only when the flyer is stable and fully supported.

Spot as a team

The supplied side straps connect directly to the reinforced belt attachment points. No carabiner or other metal connector is needed. Check both connections, keep straps untwisted, and keep them clear of the movement. Do not substitute parts or improvise knots.

If you are unsure how a side strap connects, contact us before use. The sketches show belt position and hand placement only; they do not show connection routing.

Hold close and follow

Each spotter holds their strap with the inside hand—the hand nearer the flyer—as close to the flyer as practical without getting in the way. Keep the outside hand slightly higher. Use a grip you can release; do not wind straps around hands or wrists, or put fingers inside tightening loops.

Two spotters, one on each side, holding with inside hands close to the flyer and outside hands slightly higher. Hand positions only; connection routing is not shown.

Let the flyer lead. Follow the movement without steering or adding unnecessary tension. When assistance is needed, coordinate an upward and outward pull with the other spotter. Aim for balanced support without jerks, one-sided pulling, or dragging the flyer across the base.

Get in sync before the trick

Agree on roles, ready and stop signals, and how to return to a stable position. Clear the area and use suitable mats. Start with the flyer standing while both spotters practise hand placement and communication.

Under the instructor’s direction, a small straight-up jump from the floor can help practise coordination. Both spotters assist to slow the descent. The flyer should land upright where they started, without tilting or drifting left, right, forward, or back. Stop and reset if support is uneven or the belt moves. This is a coordination exercise, not a strength or load test. Do not stage falls or suspend the flyer.

During practice

Stay attentive and pause when tired or distracted. Anyone may call stop. If the belt shifts, a grip changes, a strap snags, a closure loosens, or a spotter loses position, end the attempt using the agreed plan. Resume only after the problem is resolved. No operating limits have been established; this guide must not be used to choose a load, height, or progression.

When to stop using the belt

Take it out of use after a failed inspection, abnormal shock, suspected overload, harmful chemical or heat exposure, or uncertain history. Mark it DO NOT USE and keep it separate from usable equipment. Contact us before any return to service.

Retire it if structural webbing, stitching, attachment points, or hardware are damaged, or any closure no longer holds. Another working closure does not make a damaged one acceptable. Hidden damage may remain even when the belt looks clean.

Do not restitch, glue, tape, modify, or repair structural parts yourself. Keep damaged equipment for assessment if requested, and never pass it on as usable. No fixed maximum service life has been established; damage can require retirement from the first use.

Look after your belt

  • Clean by hand with a damp cloth and mild soap. Clear loose debris from the Velcro without damaging it.
  • Air dry the belt and side straps fully, then inspect before use.
  • Do not machine wash, tumble dry, bleach, iron, or use direct heat, solvents, or unapproved disinfectants.
  • Store and transport dry, away from sharp edges, abrasion, chemicals, heat, and prolonged sunlight.

Keep your purchase record, supplied card, and any batch information from your order email. Record inspections and incidents; for shared equipment, assign someone to maintain the record and keep withdrawn items out of use.

Something does not feel right

Tell us. Report damage, slipping, unexpected behaviour, or an incident—even if nobody was hurt. Stop using the belt while the issue is being assessed.
