FlyCarian Spotting Belt Sizing: XS, Small or Medium?

For FlyCarian sizing, measure around your belly at navel height, over the clothes you'll practise in. The current ranges are XS: 56–68 cm, Small: 64–80 cm and Medium: 76–96 cm.

Not your jeans size. Not a measurement around your hips. Where you put the tape matters.

WARNING: FlyCarian is for hand spotting with two trained human spotters, one on each side. Do not use it with overhead lines, pulleys, fixed anchors or suspension systems. It is not certified fall-arrest equipment and does not guarantee a catch. AcroYoga can cause serious injury or death.

This article is here to help you choose a size. Everyone using the belt must also read and follow the complete current FlyCarian user guide. The chart doesn't confirm secure fit, and it doesn't establish a safe load.

XS, Small or Medium?

Belly circumference at navel height, over practice clothing
FlyCarian size Measurement
Extra Small / XS 56–68 cm
Small / S 64–80 cm
Medium / M 76–96 cm

Use these centimetre ranges when choosing, even if you normally buy a different clothing size.

Take a fresh measurement

  1. Put on the clothing you expect to wear during practice.
  2. Pass a flexible measuring tape around your belly at navel height.
  3. Keep the tape level and comfortably against your body. Don't pull it tight.
  4. Read the measurement, then repeat it to check consistency.

The belt sits above the hips, over the belly button. You need a size that meets all the fitting requirements and lets you breathe normally. Buying smaller and tightening harder isn't a workaround.

“I'm in both ranges. Which do I order?”

There are two overlaps: 64–68 cm is within XS and Small, and 76–80 cm is within Small and Medium. That doesn't mean both sizes will fit every person in the overlap equally well.

Ask us before ordering if you're in an overlap, close to the edge of a range or unsure about your measurement. Send the navel-height measurement and tell us what clothing you measured over. Height, body weight and your usual T-shirt size aren't substitutes for that information.

If you're outside the listed ranges, don't improvise an extension or try to force an unsuitable size to work.

When it arrives, the chart has done its job

Now you need to check the actual belt on the actual wearer.

Before use, inspect the belt, side straps, stitching, attachment points, hook-and-loop closures and buckle. If you find damage, a slipping adjustment, incomplete buckle engagement or anything of uncertain condition, stop and contact us.

Follow the full fitting sequence in the user guide. All three hook-and-loop layers and the buckle must work correctly. One working closure does not make up for another damaged one.

The guide recommends at least 8 cm of fully engaged overlap on each of the three hook-and-loop layers. This recommendation has not been validated by engineering testing and is not a tested safe minimum. Meeting it does not guarantee retention.

With the flyer standing on the floor, have a partner check the belt position, closures and strap connections without lifting or suspending the flyer. Do not use it if it slides towards the hips, pulls towards the chest, leaves loose gaps, restricts breathing, or causes pain or numbness.

A standing fit check is not a load test. Don't hang someone from the belt or stage a fall to see whether it works.

Size is not a weight rating

XS, Small and Medium describe fit. They are not strength categories.

No maximum flyer weight, height, drop distance or line/overhead load rating has been established for FlyCarian. A larger size does not allow a larger load or a more difficult movement. Reinforced stitching, component materials and a secure-feeling fit do not certify the complete product.

Read the Safety & Usage Guidelines when deciding whether the intended use is appropriate.

If several people will share it

Measure each intended wearer. Averaging the group's measurements won't tell you whether one belt fits everyone, and a fit check for one flyer doesn't carry over to the next. Refit and recheck whenever the wearer changes.

Someone also needs to keep inspection and incident records, retain the available purchase and batch information, and separate withdrawn equipment from usable gear. An uncertain history is a reason to take the belt out of use and ask for guidance.

The kit includes the belt, a pair of side straps, a carrying bag and a Quick Start Guide. The supplied straps connect directly to the reinforced belt attachment points. Don't substitute parts or add improvised connectors.

Still deciding whether you need a belt at all? Read when a spotting belt belongs in your practice first. If the use is appropriate and you've worked out the fit, you can check current FlyCarian sizes here.

You still need the team: two trained spotters, competent instruction, suitable mats and a shared plan.
